Looking for SEO Help for a P&C Site

Hello everyone. I'm new here (obviously). Our site has been up for a few years and the host had promised page 1 for as long as we kept our business with them. They have not held up their part of the bargain and there have been some changes in their management team that now put this responsibility on me. I'm unsure if I'm allowed to post a link in this thread being as new as I am so I won't. I did include it on my profile though. I'm just looking for any ideas or guidance as to how to get this done. The marketplace has been tough lately and we are fighting to keep the same business on our books at lower premiums & profits. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

"the host had promised page 1"

Those pesky hosts will do that.

There are some good SEO guys/gals on the Forum such as Dave and Val and certainly a few others.

Search under "SEO" here and you may pick up some good ideas.

A host or anybody else who promises you a number 1 position is a liar. There is no question about that.

I have a #1 position for a few medium-traffic keywords and for a lot of low-traffic keywords.

The rankings fluctuate and although I have influence over the rankings of my pages, it is far different from having control.

You are going to have to do Keyword search.

You should be able to buy some adword clicks like Alston and get some top positions under certain keywords.

I have been able to do that ... my site comes up on the first page even though it shouldn't??? I don't know why ...

Anyway, I know Malcolm on here is good at this. You may want to contact him.

There has been a lot of changes in SEO with Google recently.
The portals are starting to get out ranked by local businesses. Google wants to promote real companies instead of those lead portals.

Now to get #1 ranking in your state or city searches can be accomplished. Even in this economy I would say you need to spend at least $5,000 to get that top ranking in a handful of key searches.

You might also have to develop a new website to help you hit those goals.

How did you come up with the $5,000 figure?

I do realize it is an estimate, but where or on what would the money be spent?

Took a quick view of your site, Whoever you hired to do your optimization honestly did not have a Clue what they were doing.

Home Page Title: Business Insurance New Jersey ---- Exact Searches for this Term? ZERO, plus they have jammed a bunch more on the title tag, which is hurting you.

Even if they did promise you Page 1, This term means nothing, and generates 0 searches per month.

The way your site is structrued now, I doubt it will ever go very far. Its done totally wrong and not even targeting traffic??

I looked also at your Header, Trust me, when the Search Engines see this, I am sure it lets them know immediately, if the site is structrued correctly.

I have never seen a header with this much gargbage, and ridiculous meta tags. I would be speaking with someone with that company, guaranteed!!!
