LTC for My Mom

I've been selling insurance for a while, but I've never really invested much time into LTC. I've got concerns about my mom getting underwritten. Beyond that, I also want to be with a company that's not going to jack the rates in 3 years and will pay claims promptly.

She's 61 (62 in January), smokes, and is Type II Diabetic. What carriers would you recommend? Who are the good guys?

Thanks.

What is her height and weight?
Does she have any type of heart disease or any history of heart surgery? If so, what kind?
Lastly, does she take insulin? If so, how much per day?

No heart disease. No insulin. 5' 0'', 180 lbs. I think her A1C is 6.1 with medication (not sure what medication though).

Thanks.

"My guess, it's gonna be Mutual of Omaha"

Bad guess, Bob............

Mutual will not insure a diabetic who smokes...........

you need to update your underwriting guide, Arthur.

MutofOm is one of a handful of companies that can insure a diabetic smoker.

She will be rated up with Mutual of Omaha, based on info given so far. If more in APS could easily be a decline based on underwriters discretion. I already know of 2 other major carriers that won't even look at the application.

Get the names of all medications she takes and what for, plus any other health history.

My grandfather was a smoker and diabetic. He needed care at home until it wore my grandmother out. The physical care and mental anguish was too much for her. He then spent several years in a nursing facility.

I'd say she'd be very lucky to have a plan. The height/weight, diabetes and smoking put her at a real high risk of needing care in the future.

A few companies can insure type 1 diabetics. It will depend upon the amount of insulin used each day and if there are any other health problems.
