Ltc??

I would suggest that if you know nothing, do not attempt to help your client other than to introduce him to someone who knows something. Do not learn the product at the clients expense or his children may hunt you down one day and ask why you did their dad a dis-service on what you sold him. Follow along with a seasoned pro, get a mentor, and READ a lot. Be good at something, and not poor at lots of things. LTC is not a quick study product. Move on to term life insurance if you want simple.

I did not check with PA rules, but in many states you need to be LTC/partnership certified to sell it...just like you have to be certified to sell MA. Learning what the product does is one thing. Learning what to sell your client in his/her situation is another thing....that takes a little longer than basic book learnin. Lots of carriers....lots of subtleties.

Just my opinion.

thank you for your opinion! I'm not trying to do a "quick fix" sale...he would obviously be my first sale. This fella is actually the 2nd person looking for LTC insurance in the past week.... made me think, "If I have the license to sell it, I should just as well utilize it" and be able to sell it if someone asks me... If I could find someone who would tutor me in this aspect, I'd be more than happy to do my part with the reading and studying... I don't mind a little study and work. But your opinion is appreciated!!!!

Umm, I could be wrong, but it was my understanding that partnership certification was only a requirement in some states to sell a partnership plan.

Jessica,

I think you'd be hugely benefited from meeting with an LTCi wholesaler. Find a company or two that you want to work with/have heard great things about and reach out to them. Discuss what you've mentioned here with the Wholesaler. Wholesalers should be available for client appointments as well. Meet with them first and talk to them, it's easy to tell who knows there stuff, and who will be in the unemployment line in a few months.

Thanks a lot! I'll do that, you guys are really helping to point me in a great direction.... ;)

34 states have adopted the training requirements of the NAIC 2006 Long-Term Care Insurance Model Act. In order to sell any LTCi policy in those states (not just partnership qualified policies), you have to take the required training.

You can learn more about that at the following website:

ClearCert Initial Training

In most states the training can be done online. There are a number of vendors that offer the approved course(s).

Here's one of them:

I see. The states in which I primarily do business haven't adopted this...yet.

I have a unique relationship with a company here in Pa.
I like having the ability to site down face to face with the underwriters every Friday!

LTC is not as complicated as most would think.(IMO)
Med Supp clients are your best prospects for this protection!
and you already know how much "skilled" rehab they have.

I like to show new agents that I help; a diagram that they can use.You can draw it right in front of the client in 30 seconds, it really helps the client understand and it helps newbies with the transition. I still on occasion after almost 20 yrs resort back to it.You can use it for Med Supps as well.

I am surprised no one has ever asked what those ear flap's things were on the guy on my avatar were all about.
Happy Holidays

PA only requires the 1 hour Partnership course to sell LTC. Through WEB CE you can also take an 8 hour course (included the 1 hour of required Partnership) which might be good since you are new to LTC. I would be more than willing to talk with you about carriers, products as well as help run some quotes for you and your clients. Which carrier is the best or most cost effective depends on factors like age, health, what benefts are important, etc.

Pa does not have any additional ce requirements to sell Non
Qualified Partnership plans.

Please demonstrate the diagram for us.

And, what are those ear flappy thingys.

My guess is that it's someone who was in the invasion of Normandy, lost his ears in an explosion and won the Congressional Medal of Honor.
