Managing emails with clients

Email creates a "paper trail" for future reference.

I tell clients MY preference is for email so we both have a record of the conversation.

Texting CAN leave a trail but finding a text is comparable to the needle in a haystack. Phone calls, unless recorded, are like vapor.

Email with tracking works very well for me, especially when I can see if the message was opened or not. I also see emails that are opened several times, including emails sent a year or more earlier.

Does texting do that?

I totally agree about keeping a record. Im a big fan of email because of that. I often send email summaries to clients of conversations if important points were made verbally. Ive had clients thank me for doing so because we all know clients forget 50% of what you tell them by nature.

However, texting allows that even if you dont have it integrated in your CRM.

There are tons of "text to email" apps. You just select a text thread or single message, and it sends it to your email. Many show as an option within the text thread, so you can just immediately do it once finished.

Tyler, I am tethered to my computer virtually 24/7 but I don't always have, or hear, my cell phone.

I can text from my laptop but it requires me to have my phone nearby and turned on (but not asleep).

I have done telesales for over 25 years. That's 250 Biden years.

I don't have it rough. Actually, it is nice to sit at my desk when it is storming, 90 degrees, 20 degrees, everyone has COVID . . .
The reason you don't have it rough is because the people you talk to are not as hard nosed as you..

I mostly deal with pretty high net worth business owners over 40 yrs old. They are constantly asking me to text them, which I still think is weird. I don't use text in the office, and I hold back, but I usually want to answer "no, we don't text here because this is a business, and I'm not a goddamn 12 year old."
I despise text... My wife and daughters are into it. Spend hours sending messages back and forth when you could make a phone call and be done with it in just a few minutes.

I can bang out a 200 word email in a manner of minutes.

Same message by text could take me 30 minutes or longer. PLUS I have several "form" emails that take a few seconds to send.

I use Google Voice. It is on my computer as a Chrome extension. It is open on a 27" monitor and I use my regular keyboard. The negative is you can not format it like an email. But for a quick note it is awesome.

I used to use Hangouts for texting but that required the recipient to also have Hangouts. But Hangouts has been deprecated so no longer an option.

I could use G voice but that gives clients and prospects another phone number to use in contacting me. Same for texting from my phone.

I don't give out my cell number to clients or prospects, or my G voice number. By providing just one number I can control the number of ways for them to interrupt my day.
