Med Supp Company That Direct Bills?

Is there a med supp company out there that will still do a monthly direct bill and allow the insured to send a monthly paper check in for payment?

I'm contracted with 6 supp companies and all of them require EFT. And every now and then I run into someone that will only pay monthly and refuses to sign up for auto draft.

Any companies out there that still do this?

Are you aware that when a client is direct billed, you get paid as-earned instead of advanced, if that's a big deal to you?

Actually, no... I had no idea of that. Every company that I've ever sold only offered auto draft so I've never signed anyone up on direct bill. I have lost sales because of this though.

Some of the older redder neck folks here in Oklahoma don't trust banks and either 1) don't have a checking account or 2) are a little too behind in the times for auto draft and don't trust an insurance company to just take money out of their account.

All that being said... Do you know of any companies?

Most use to, none that I'm currently aware of. It has been several years since I have been asked that question.

The question I get asked most frequently is "can I have this taken out of my checking account".

When they did ask I would tell them it is just another way that insurance companies are working in your best interest by helping keep the premium down. Otherwise they have to pay someone to generate and send out the statement, put postage on it, open it when they receive it, fill out the deposit slip and take it to the bank.

Or I tell them that they can make an annual payment by check but why give the insurance company all that money at one time when you, the client, can keep it and earn interest instead of the insurance company earning that interest.

That usually makes perfect sense to them and they agree to it.

That is a common misconception among some seniors.

I explain that it does not authorize the insurance company to "take the money out of their account". I tell them it is just like writing a check. The check/authorization form tells the bank that it is okay to pay the money. That the insurance company makes a request of the bank to send the money. No different than the insurance company submitting their check for payment.

I also tell them that I have everything possible set up for the bank to send the money so I don't have to write the check.

I have even gone with some of them in the past and helped them open a checking account. I hate to lose a sale.

In Colorado AARP/United Healthcare and Anthem BC/BS will still direct bill monthly. Those are the only two I know of. All the rest will bill quarterly/semi-annually/annually.

Here's what I did with a lady here locally.

I told her that I understood why she felt the way she did(always do this), I took her to the local credit union, and set it up with the CSR that my client would write the check to the credit union as a deposit, and the CSR would deposit it for her. They have no minimum account requirements, so she only puts in enough to cover the check.

That is an excellent idea. I will start using that when I have this particular objection.

Thanks!
