Medicare for all...and what that means for YOU

With the democrats taking the house last night we are potentially one step closer to Medicare for All. Optimists among us will point to a larger pool of people that would then need our services for supplemental insurance, but if you actually read what the bills that have already been proposed by Senator Bernie Sanders (S.1804) and House Rep Keith Ellison (HR676), you'll find the truth about their plans.

Here's an excerpt from a VOX article summarizing the proposed bills, ..."The program will provide comprehensive coverage that exceeds the services currently covered by Medicare. Dental, vision, and mental care will be covered, as will inpatient care, outpatient care, primary care, preventative care, palliative care, ambulatory care, emergency care, maternal care, and newborn care.It will eliminate the need for supplemental insurance, expanding the benefits of expensive “Medigap” plans to everyone."

"Medicare-for-all" means something. Don’t let moderates water it down.

Obviously with Trump as president and the Republicans keeping control of the Senate, no such bill could be passed before 2021...assuming democrats could capture the senate and the presidency in the 2020 elections. And if passed, and that is still a big if, it wouldn't likely come to fruition until 2022.

I'm not saying the sky is falling today, but don't kid yourself, more and more democrats are calling for Medicare for All. In fact 16 Senators, many who are potential presidential contenders, and 120 House Democrats, have also signed on in support of the bill.

If it actually passed the way the current proposals are written, say good bye to your Medicare business/renewals. Remember this in 2020.

In the mean time as the old saying goes..."Make hay when the sun is shining." Good selling everyone.

It seems it would take longer than 2022 to put this in place, though - they can't even figure out the ACA! I can't see the insurance industry agreeing to this without a major fight.

And what about doctors, dentists, etc? Aren't they going to be dis-incentived by this if everyone has access to health care? I'd be all for it if there was a way to pay for it, but c'mon, and it's already difficult to get a doctor's appointment sometimes.

I just highly highly doubt they would do Medicaid for all. Because that’s what they are saying there. Medicare for all would be ok as far as our careers go but not Medicaid for all

It seems it would take YEARS to put this mess into place... Medicare, Medicaid, ACA, TRICARE, VA, those on group health plans, those who have no coverage now, etc. Imagine all the whining and complaining as people have to wait their turn for their coverage?

The ONLY reason Obamacare exists is because Dim's controlled all 3 branches of govt. For the next 2 yrs they will only have the House. Anything they want to do towards MFA will dry up in the Senate and never get to POTUS.

If they try to raise taxes, like they have promised, that too will fall flat. Even if they could pull it off it will come back and bite them in the butt in 2020.

I've seen Tweets from the head of CMS strongly opposing the "Medicare For All" mentality, stating that the CMS budget would be inadequate for such a major overhaul of Medicare. The lobbyists for the insurance companies and other senior concerns will hopefully join Ms. Seema in opposing the initiative.

It all sounds great until you run out of other people's money. How would they pay for that?

Medicare just has basic benefits now and leaves deductibles, co-pays, etc. and does not include dental or vision. It only covers a portion of the population and they are mostly over age 65 so likely they are only on it for 20 years on average. And most of those on it paid a minimum of 10-years of taxes into it but many paid 40-years into before they got any benefits. Many people paid 40 years into it and died before they ever even got the benefit. And it's still going broke!

So if we cover the entire population. And no one pays into it in advance. And many people will be on it for 80 and 90 years. Some over 100 years. And they want to add additional benefits so it doesn't need supplements? How does the money work on this? Oh I know, tax the holy crap out of the evil billionares. lol That's always the battle cry. Then they tax the $&!+ out of all the working class people.

Scott is right.

SS started out costing almost nothing. With something like 40 people paying in for every one collecting it was great.

Now it is 3 workers for every 1 collecting.

SS is a Ponzi scheme that will eventually have to be overhauled by raising taxes and reducing benefits . . . most likely for FUTURE beneficiaries.

Same for Medicare.

The Medicare for old farts, not for everyone.
