So how many of you cross sell the med supp from your final expense sale? Its a painfully obvious opportunity seeing as how most FE prospects are also medicare eligible. Im wondering how many FE agents actively pursue the med supp sale after locking down the FE sale.

I have usually done it the other way, save someone $40 a month on medicare supplement then offer a life policy with the savings. Congratulations, you have the same medsup plan and a 10K life policy as well!

Depending on the client, I will ask if what they have for healthcare then run rates after and let them know whats available.

What makes for a REALLY good day?
Saving a couple $120 a month on their exact, same Medicare Supplement plan to then find out that they have no life insurance and both want a $10,000 "burial" policy.

That is a great day. And happens frequently.

yes! it's a beautiful thing. I usually try to find out what their life insurance situation is before I even start figuring on the Med Supp rates.

Easier to price their needs when you know the big picture before you start to quote rates.

It may be painfully obvious but it ain't happening. Maybe that's where the painfully part comes in?

Cross selling med sups to the FE market is about like trying to cross sell annuities to them.

I ask everyone I meet with who they have their med sup with. More than 90% of the normal FE market do not have a med sup. Nor are they the demographic for med sups. I write over 300 FE applications per year. I write about 20 med sups a year. I don't prospect for med sups so all of my sales come from my FE clients or referrals from my FE clients. More referrals than from the FE clients actually. Earlier this week I wrote a med sup for one of my FE clients. Saved her $40/mo on her med sup and saved her $7/mo on her FE plan. She also got $1000 cv back from the plan I replaced.

She has already referred me to 2 other med sup prospects that I'm meeting with tomorrow.

Now, the other method which was mentioned here is fantastic. Cross selling FE to med sup clients is about an easy of a sale as you will ever make.

You should be proud, you write more than Rick and that's his specialty.....

Well if you dont bother much with med supps then im gonna take a wild guess that you wouldnt touch an mapd with a ten foot pole. Perhaps it would be best to just contact your existing FE policy holders during AEP to set up a plan review.:GEEK:

The FE market is the MA MA market for the most part. I used to write a lot of MA plans. I was the top agent in theis region for 3 companies. I haven't written an MA plan, an MAPD or a PDP in over 4 years. I help many of clients with their PDP by showing them how to compare plans at medicare.gov and how to enroll.

For the people that ask me to assist in their MA and or PDP I give them the name and number of a friend of mine that does pretty much all the plans. They call him, he sends the SOA's to them and he gets a lot of business from me. I know the folks are taken care of and I don't have to be CMS's butt buddy, {to quote Frank:D}.

I love to write med supss. But it's not my market. I only prospect for FE. If i wasn't as successful with FE then I would prospect for med sups the way Frank Statsny taught me and then cross sell FE.

For over a year now, I have mentioned MS plans on all of my FE calls. I sold some MA plans, (not many), and the only MS plan I sold was to myself. However, I've been considering getting a little more aggressive in that market by picking up some leads in the areas that I'm now working, and seeing if I can do any good.

Cross selling Med-Supps with FE is an excellent way to build renewals. Also you might find the least amount of traffic you keep out your houses the better. If you sell one or the other, med-supp or FE, and not both or at least mention it and an agent worth his grit comes and presents it all, he could take all your business and hard earned work. Doesn't hurt to at least ask.
