I am looking to get out of the Medicare Advantage market and into the Medicare Supplements, what companies are reasonable for the state of Florida?
Then I hope to move on to the phone sales in other states.

This forum has been more help than any classroom could ever be, thanks all and Happy New Year.

AARP/UHC , Gerber and MOO and your in like flint. You can check out Florida DOI consumer Medicare Supplement shopper website https://apps.fldfs.com/mcws/CWSSearch.aspx

Gerber Life is coming to Florida with great rates and commissions..
Let me know if you'd like a contract. Although in Florida, I do not actively market here, as the Medicare Advantage penetration is way too high to be competitive in the Med Supp arena (28.3% vs. 12.2% in South Carolina, for example). The vast majority here have the expectation of $0 premium as the norm. Plus, the rates for Medicare Supplements are among the highest in the country.

In other states, though, we enjoy great success in selling Medicare Supplements over the phone - sometimes using E-Apps and sometimes just mail.

As for Florida and carriers available - I won't sell AARP any more, for a variety of reasons to do with their corporate philosophy in support, or lack thereof, of seniors. (We have lots switching FROM them as a result of their political affiliations, too, recently.) Mutual of Omaha is announcing a significant rate increase for Florida coming soon - so Gerber, as the new kid on the block with better rates and comp, will be my choice for referrals and walk-in business in the state.

Does anybody know what the percentage is? I've gotta see a real big one to make them higher then most.

Will they or have they already tried to bring in United of Omaha or United World? :1arghh:

FLORIDA DOI DOESN'T LIKE SHELL GAMES!!! ;)

It is United World that is currently in Florida.

Now that I'm post AEP I opened up one of my Mutual emails from Decmber 16th.

Effective on new and inforce business for Mutual of Omaha Medicare supplement in Florida as of February 1, 2010, the following rate adjustments by plan will be effective:

5.7% all plans

Not a game changer -- trend!

United World use to be in Florida. Now it's MoO.
United World is still in Alabama.

Spot on!

It is the United World block of business in Florida, the "old" MOO block of business, that is having the larger increase. It is rumored to be around 10+%. Not a significant increase at all.

Currently the Mutual of Omaha Med Supps are considered the "current block of business" and as MedSuppPro posted, that increase is even less significant. At 5.7% it almost makes one wonder why they bother considering most companies are having increases in the 20% range.

I find it interesting, with all the talk about competitive companies in Florida I haven't seen American Pioneer mentioned. American Pioneer is said to be extremely competitive in Miami, Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. I don't have the premiums so maybe someone here can check that.

Am Pi hasn't been competitive in Missouri for many years.

American Pioneer just had an 18% rate increase in Florida and are out of the game for now. (Their office is 1/2 a block from mine in Lake Mary...)
