Missouri Appointments For A New Life Agent?

I'm in Missouri and will soon be taking my Life test. Does anyone have suggestions on good carriers to look at in my state (not that I own it..."our state") that work with new independent agents who have no track record of production to put on an application? Any good General Agents in Missouri that I should be talking to?

Thanks for your help!

Find a good FMO that offers several carriers. Frank may be able to help you.

You're a good and decent human being for responding; but I'm very new to this, and I don't know what an FMO is, or who Frank is. Can you clarify, please? Thanks for your time!

Since you called me a good and decent human being I will be happy to. Frank is Frank Stastny who is an authority on the seniors market and is located in Missouri. He has some contracts available for that market.

FMO is a field marketing organization. They are someone you can sign up with and gain access to multiple companies. The most important thing to make sure with any FMO is that the business is yours and you can be released if and when you request it.

Someone who is not in Missouri but who can also help you is Mark Rosenthal. You can find both of these gentlemen on here. Plus a bunch of other helpful people.

Something you haven't answered and wasn't asked. What is your target market? Who do you envision yourself selling life insurance to? That will help determine what companies you need and who can best guide you.

As to Frank, you can find Frank in Mt. Sinai, Missouri. He is currently leading his people in their exodus away from petting zoos and glue factories.

This is a very helpful forum! I will do some searching on how to find Frank, who sounds sort of like my Obi Wan!

VolAgent: That's an interesting question that I should have a well-thought out answer to. Unfortunately, I don't. My target market, at this point, is people who have some money and who would like to buy life insurance. I'm not being flippant, I just really don't have a better idea. I'm very new to this; I have a passion for finance and financial planning, but that's about all I have (aside from a pretty good education, and a willingness to work and learn by trying).

I'm now committed to coming up with a more defined idea of who my market is!

Target market should be defined in order to produce your marketing plan. Few examples...

Are you looking for people that have new babies or are expecting?

Are you looking for young couples looking to purchase a new home?

Are you looking for Families up sizing or down sizing?

Are you looking for empty nesters?

Are you looking for small business owners that depend on their business for income?

Hope this helps.

You need to either define who you want to sell to, or what product you want to sell. Then work towards the other side of the equation. People who buy big dollar whole life policies are not the same people who buy non-med term, which is different than people who buy multi-million dollar term policies, which is different than the FE market.

Yes, it is good to be ABLE to write any of the above, but you need to focus your marketing efforts on a typical demographic.
