Missouri Plan F

Who has the cheapest plan F in Missouri zip 64155? Male turning 65.

Why sell a plan F? Plan C has the same benefits except for the excess charges, and almost all doctors accept assignment. Usually there is a significantly higher premium on plan F over plan C. If you can find a cheap plan F, go for it. Even plan D is the same as plan C but with At Home Recovery. However, At Home Recovery is underutilized and that's why it is being dropped from Med Sups next year.

My approach: present plan C.

^I think I have yet to sell a C plan myself. I usually sell a B,D or F plan. In my area the C plan is a lot more than a D plan and about the same as an F

You are probably more experienced than I at Med Sups... but for those tuning in on this thread, let me just say that everyone has their own approach. I would advise just make sure you justify the difference in the plan costs. Be prepared to show how much the client will be paying for the benefit on your offered plan that is over and above the one without it. My clients like comparison shopping. Show them the math and let them make the choice.

Make sure they know that not every plan is offered except A... F is almost universally offered, and sometimes C is not. Many do not offer D. Gerber, for example, only offers A, F, and G in MO and KS. BCBSKC only offers A, C, F, & J, etc. If you find a carrier that offers D and is competitive, go for it!.... but realize that At Home Recovery is practically worthless. The flip side is that because it is sold less, the rates are more stable. Have enough products in your quiver that you can show them some practical choices. I would avoid a one trick pony show.

The problem with writing Plan C, D, B, etc. or any other Plan than Plan F in Missouri is that many times those Plans go up in premium because once they are on the books and take increases it's hard to find a company to replace their policy unless they can qualify for another Plan by answering the health questions. We write Plan F because insurance companies are continually entering the market with a low priced Plan F Medicare supplement because most of the business in MO is Plan F and insurance companies want to be profitable. With this being said you will also have to replace them every few years because the MO anniversary replacement law fosters adverse selection. This is also a good time to revisit LTC, Final expense, or Annuity options.

For example, as a recruiter I haven't been able to replace the contract for many agents who wrote Plan C or Plan D years ago based on benefits/price in MO because we can't get a company that can come in to the State who will have a competitive product. It's just not profitable for them to offer those plans because in MO most of the Medicare business is Plan F. However, with this being said there are still a lot of other than Plan F Med supps written because MO is such a great Medicare State but your client might be stuck with that Plan "C" you wrote them 5 years ago trying to save them money and now they are paying more than the new Plan F with lesser coverage because they have a health condition and can't move from C to F. That's a very good point and unique to MO and CA. I have a prospect now with Plan C. I can find 3 carriers much less expensive for Plan F but in CA we cannot move "up" on a GI basis (birthday rule). He cannot be underwritten.

Both of you have a good point here. Guess I better re-think my "Offer Plan C first" approach.
