I am opening an independent p&c agency in January, after working as a captive producer for 6 years. I am going to have 2-3 direct appointments, and wanted to use a wholesaler like agentsecure, superior access, or insurance noodle for additional markets. My question is: Suppose I have a significant amount of business with a carrier through one of these wholesalers, can and how can I roll those policies into a direct appointment with that carrier? Anyone have experience with this?

In most cases your will have to wait until the policy renews to move it over.

by rewriting it? or is there actually a way to transfer the policy through the carrier?
In mosr cases you should get a BOR (Acord 36) signed by you client, a few days or up to 60 days prior to x date.

thanks good info. But is it that easy to switch your clients once you gain a direct appointment with a company.

It really depends on the carriers you are moving them from and the carriers you are moving them to.
In the past companies where more willing to do this, I have not seen much of this happening now unless it is a large book of business.
