Great thread! Too bad this wasn't around for many of us other poor saps to read many years ago. Many of us broke into the industry with the "dressed up turds" out there- Mega, United American, Aflac et al.

They ARE deceptive and they are everything you indicated- in spades.

My best time was as an independent. I'm heading back in that direction now after a 4 year self-imposed layoff. I almost signed up as a captive with Pyramid (not a bad company) but have decided to go back to my first instinct.

ok sure. And how credible would that be??? I mean I did learn how cut & paste at age 5. Plus most of my income now is capital gains, and that is a much better tax bracket to be in 15-18%.

Again the only reason I came on this forum was to dispel the bad press AFLAC is getting from a few individuals, and like most public open forums, it is like the Jerry Springer Show. So keep in mind that when you point your finger at me there are three pointing back at you.

Well to answer your question: I started 18 years ago with Raymond James as a stock broker. After 3 years I became a CFP and opened my own office. At that time I was contracted with several insurance companies. Within the next year I found that I was writing most of my insurance business with Hartford, so I let the other contracts expire.
By the late 90's I had contracted with ING, and in 2001 I contracted with Allianz, then in 2003 I contracted with AFLAC.

The reason I contracted with AFLAC is it opened doors in the 5-15 employee type of companies, and they do have some real good products as very affordable rates. As to the way they have there agent structure, yes that is a bit antiquated, and more a 60's style of doing things.
