I had a friend of a relative call me yesterday with the following dilemma. In 2009 she had a Coventry PFFS that of course is no longer available, so she enrolled in a Humana MAPD with an effective date of 1/1/2010.

Some agent has her all screwwed up and this lady is desperate because the agent switched her, and her husband, into a med supp with CSA Faternal life. I am appointed with them but it loos like the agent quoted them premiums that are about 50% more than what they should be. This lady has no idea which plan she was quoted because the agent left no information, other than a replacement notice, with her. I figure it's probably an F.

The lady also said that she did the interview on the phone with CSA and the agent called CMS to let them know that she would be switching to a med supp with a stand alone PDP. This happened on January 8th.

I called CSA and they don't have a clue to the answers to my questions which are.

1. Since she enrolled in Humana during AEP and it was effective 1/1/2010, has she lost here GI rights that she had due to the fact she was disenrolled from Coventry?

2.Since the agent called Medicare and told them about the switch, who will notify them if the med supp doesn't go through. I would say CSA but they didn't even know.

3. I am going to her house today to try to get this mess worked out for her but she probably is not going to qualify for a med supp because she is a diabetic(non-insulin) with high b.p, cholestorol, among other things. Did she lose her GI right? I would say she did because of the Humana, but not 100% sure. The girl agent with CSA asked health questions but quoted the wrong premiums and the lady said she was there for over 4 1/2 hours. Agai, she called CSA witht he customer and called CMS according to this lady, but she is so confused.

What would you do?

What would you do?

I'm surprised that with all your expertise and now feeling that you are qualified to offer training that you would know that there isn't anything anyone on the forum can do to straighten this out. You can get opinions here but that is all they will be.

Those questions are going to have to be answered and decisions are going to have to be made by the companies, Medicare and or CMS. We can tell you what the rules state if you don't know them, but the final word will have to come from them. I suggest that you get on the phone and start calling and talk to the decision makers. Otherwise, if all you give her are more opinions and more bad advice the situation could become further complicated and she may end up with no coverage at all. That's the way a professional agent would handle it.

What makes you think she won't qualify with, diabetic(non-insulin) with high b.p, cholesterol,? Every company I represent will accept a non-insulin dependent diabetic. I cannot recall the last time high blood pressure has entered into the equation and then only with one company I have ever represented. Cholesterol has never presented a problem in getting a policy issued I have submitted.

It sounds like you need to do a lot more research and studying before you really become an expert on Medicare and Medicare Supplement policies. I hope you are not imparting that kind of erroneous information to all of the agents who you are training.

Frank that is great!

You can go to medicares website and put in her medicare number and it will tell you if she is enrolled into the Humana plan. But Im sure you already know this...we are still in OEP so she can switch to a medsupp and a part D, but you SHOULD no that to. Diabetic non insulin, every company should insure that. but, then again you should no that to. Great job in reading and studding so you dont lead a agent down the wrong road...

Come on Frank, you know Dwayne is a Med Supp expert, not an MA expert. How could he possibly know these rules? Oh wait, because it has to do with guarantee issue rights of a Med Supp.

Of course, the simplest thing to do would be to call an underwriter with Med Supp carrier you intend to place the business and explain the situation. They will gladly answer the question. Or you could post the question here and reveal that you aren't quite the expert you claim to be.

You've got to be kidding me.

The president of "StongArm Insurnace & Free Training" can't figure out how to clean up a mess from another agent, not even that complicated to be honest.

Just a few calls Dwayne.... PICK UP THE PHONE>>>>

BRRRRR... It's getting very SHILLY in here.

Dont give dwayne's students any ideas.

His guys from the first round of training almost have 1 months experience so I am sure they are just about to branch out on their own.

I understand that Dwayne has read a book on anatomy and is now doing open heart surgery on the side. He isn't charging for it though.
