New Agent Not Well Connected

Thats a good though but in th same fact there are tons of help videos and such online.

I read conflicting advice in this forum. Some people say you should go captive first, others say you should go indy.

Can you point me to theses help videos?

I started off in a situation like yours, not having a large contact pool to draw from. I got with an IMO and I am using leads, which for me is better then trying to create a list of contacts and dial down the list. Plus I have been put with an agent mentor who has helped me get started.

Well captive companies are going to offer more structured training than most independent agencies. Plus they might offer you some salary in the beginning to help you get on your feet.

Like anything there are pluses and minuses to both.

I wish I could make a decision, I still can't decide. I really don't need a salary right now. I have sales training, but not the product knowledge yet.

If you don't need a base salary I would not go captive, product knowledge is easy to learn if you know how to sell. Plus if you position yourself with the right company they will offer product training. Also if you move on down the road you won't lose everything.

Try some local associations and groups. If you don't need the salary, you probably have some free time.

Spend your time meeting others, and building a network. Your goal when you network should to be building up relationships and introducing these people to others you meet.

Be a matchmaker.

Resist the urge to network for the sake of "selling" yourself at this point. You're goal should be to build friendships as quickly and deeply as you can, like this:

Stranger--> Friendships--> Prospects --> Client

No shortcuts, and nothing shallow.

Best of luck.

For me, it's usually: Stranger - Prospect - Client - Friend.

I would starve it I had to be friends with everyone first before they became a client. Plus, I have a few clients I would never want as friends.
