New to Insurance - I Need A Sense Of Direction

Hi im new to the wonderful world of insurances and im having problems getting started. I passed my license test, i have my own office and have everything ready to open up an independent Agency. The problem is that i dont have a clue about what to do next. I have bills to pay and im getting kinda frustrated that i just want to go out and get a job with any company and just get salary pay. Anyone know a way to get me started with getting the companies so i can sell insurances for. All this Drama is taking place in Arizona. P.S Damn You Brewer.

Just having an office and a lic is not enough. Talk to some other agents that are already doing what you want to do and see how they done it.

Does anyone know of a company that sells Errors & Omissions to agents that have less than 1 year experience. Please let me know.

Re: New to Insurances Need Sense of Direction

so, how do you find an agency to work for? What's the best and quickest way? Any guidelines out there? Pitfalls to watch for? Thanks,

Be very cautious about going with an agency.

They may make you all kinds of "promises" to get you to sign a contract. Usually the contract names them as the Agent of Record (AOR) not you. If you sign it then you will only be the writing agent. Insurance companies only write commission and renewal checks to the AOR.

What this means is if you leave the agency you walk away with nothing, nada, not a penny for all of the business you have written. No, it ain't fair but it is very seldom explained to an agent.

You will most likely also receive a commission that is dramatically below what is considered "street level".

Just be careful and make sure you are making a well-informed, intelligent decision so you don't regret it in the future.

Never trade commission for a promise of "leads". Just my humble opinion.

Just as a fellow agent in the business I would like to offer any help in advise, understanding the basics, etc for any new-new agent. I welcome to hear from anyone. Thanks and have a great day!

Hi Amanda,
I am 90% sure I wish to begin a (part-time) insurance career as I have a full time (good) job at present. I have been researching for a week or so now and am convinced that, for me, becoming a specialist is a good idea. I'm interested in Final Expense and Medicare Supplements so will study to take the L and H exam. I would like to become an independent agency partner with a marketing system for online marketing these products. Do you have any recommendations concerning who I might speak with to help locate a coach/mentor who could work with me to be available for answers to questions as I begin the selling/marketing process?

Thanks for your time!
