hello I am a newly licensed Life and Health agent and i was looking around to see what lead systems there are out there that will help with getting a new agent in the mix and training and mentoring. I got in contact with an NAA recruiter as I was interested in moving back to California and he said he had tons of leads there. Ive decided as Im already settled in to stay here in North Dallas area of Texas. Does a person off hand have better luck in central coast California or to stay in Dallas? Just seems like theres so much competition here fighting for leads and such. I personally dont know how it is in California as I wasnt in insurance when i lived there. Are there any better lead systems out there that provide training and such for new agents? NAA said there were barely any leads here in Dallas as their pry getting them all scooped up I guess. Is insurance something bad to get into with the economy the way it is right now??Any advice please? sorry if this sounds too jumbled but im really stressing on waht i should do and need some professional advice. Thank you and God bless

Welcome to our world. There's a lot to learn. For example, NAA has a reputation and you can find plenty of info by searching this forum. It isn't pleasant and I speak from first hand knowledge. Just think the worst and you won't be disappointed. I can't imagine there's a market for their products now.

I'm finding good success with the senior market.

As far a lead system, I've been doing good with Norvax/Prospect Zone because of their liberal return policy. They all produce a lot of junk. Who takes it back gets my business.

Ya i googled NAA and got a lot of things to make me turn away. Is there any other options out there, whats the best thing to get into? Just starting out should i go work for an agency or just go with a lead system company that offers training? Is this bad industry to get into right now with economy as crappy as it is or will this still thrive?

You can learn to sell over the phone, that way you could work CA and TX or anywhere else for that matter.

First thing stay away from NAA. You'd do alot better on your own. Furthermore as far as lead sources go...your asking your competiton that's like walking into a car dealership and asking them who they buy their cars from and how they get so many off the lot. Search the board and you'll find the ones that are best to avoid.

Secondly, insurance is the best business to be in especially with the ecomomy being that way it is. When times are good people want lower rates and when times are bad people want lower rates.

Also depending on your setup you can sell in any state you want as long as your have a non-res license.

Ya good point but maybe might be able to get some advice from guy who doesnt sell Texas. Is it better to work at agency or on your own and eventually into own agency? I mean starting out. What is the best or easiest to sell when first starting out Life, Health, senior, mortgage protection, etc?

Probably captive to start, learn the products and whether or not you can sell, let them provide you with support. If you are good at it, you can leave once you have sufficient experience and go out on your own. Most independents started out captive. They will also provide you with leads and all.

Great thanks for the advice, what products you think i should go after first that would be easiest to get the hang of it and make the most money from the start?

I'd start out with life insurance. If you can sell life insurance, then health insurance will be very easy to add on later.

Find a good GA for life, annuities and disability. I would suggest maybe talking to MassMutual, NYL, Pru, Northwestern Mutual, MetLife.

Make sure they will allow you to write your own health/senior products without wanting a cut (Northwestern can be bad about this).

Learn to sell those core products and you will also learn what markets you like working in and are best in. You can then add on the other products in those same markets if you like.

Also, you should consider a GA who will be willing to release you to a broker contract down the road if you choose to go independent. I know that at least MassMutual will allow that. You don't want to have to choose later to walk away from all of your work to go independent. If a GA is agreeable to that, make sure you get it in writing in the contract, no verbal agreements.

Oh ok great thanks for all the great advice, but will these companies hire me with not having any experience or do i need to catch them when their hiring for new agents. Do they offer training if so and which company you think offers best?
