Its more about the tone than the words.
My grandfather use to say some choice words to my dog, but he said it right and the dog went wild over it.

That was the day we brought him home. He was asking if he could stay, or if he had to go back to the shelter for the long walk.
Mr Beans the wonder dog is half Lab and half Basset Hound. People look at him and say "I wonder what the hell is wrong with that dog" Best dog I have ever owned.
