A little about me...I use to own and operate a mortgage company several years ago. I loved recruiting, training and managing a team of loan officers. Since the mortgage collapse I ventured into other sales positions and now have been approached to sell FE. I really like the idea and the model and truly enjoy speaking to people in general.

My overall plan would be to learn the business from every aspect and someday be able to go independent and open my own office once again recruiting, training and managing. My fear from what I have read in these forums is being held captive and no longer being able to represent certain companies because of having a contract with a certain IMO.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to make any mistakes by signing a contract with someone that I shouldn't that will affect my long term goals.

Thanks for reading my post and I look forward to some feedback.

Start with Lincoln Herritage, learn all your can through their training. Spend 6 months learning the market, see if it is something you would like to involve yourself in.
Then, break away and go independent. You could contract with any company you'd like because the only company restricting you, would be useless for an independent anyway. Plus, you immediately have your entire client list that that you could roll into your new companies. It'll set you up financially for a little and show the companies you will produce. Then, ask for a higher comp.
Once you have the higher comp, you could start working for a team.
Whole process should take you 18 months.
(Although I should point out, most people fail. So, don't be sad if it doesn;t work out.)

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the quick reply. I appreciate your advice and look forward to additional comments from other members. I will look at the company you recommend. Thanks again!!

The hardest issue you are going to have is that you will not get the Big Sale as often as you experienced in the Mortgage Business. Insurance, especially FE, is a grind it out business which rewards those who develop habitual dedication to doing the same thing each week to get the best results.

My family has owned Mortgage companies for 30 years in Michigan and still does. Some of my best agents are former Mortgage Guys because they are never afraid of closing the sale.

With that said, you should be successful....In FE, you just wont make that first million in a year. Probably not that first 100,000 either. Stick to it though and you will if you are a GRINDER.

I think Tins is yanking your leg. Don't ever start your business plan by intending to screw over your company. That's not how to get ahead.

Just make certain your upline has good companies and can get you going. Make sure there is room to grow your contracts as you grow and that if you want to break away clean they will release you provided you have no debt.

Thank you newbie and twilight. Any recommendation on which company I should sign up with when my long term goal would be to go independent and recruit and train new agents?

Thanks so much, truly appreciate all of your posts and comments.

I could be a little biased but...read all you want at www.fexcontracting.com lots of free info there to avoid some of the traps and choose the right companies.

Is the web address you gave me the best way to contact you? I cannot private message as of yet?
