Nights/Weekends

I wholeheartedly agree. I have not done well in this business because of not being completely committed. The best way to succeed is to burn your bridges. Julius Caesar, destroyed the bridges that allowed his troops to cross the Rubicon, while saying the phrase "Alea jacta est" (the die is cast).

How did ol Jewels end up again?
Sorry. It was just call'n me ...

In my 11 years experience I know of only 1 agent who was successful part time selling FE. He's now full time. His name is Charlie Speller. He's a terrific person and has been on this forum before.

"FE in trailer parks ..."
One of Al's better ones.

The forum is full of naysayers who will tell you why it wont work. Dont listen to them.

Products: If your doing major medical insurance and term life insurance it is doable. Both of those products are simple and easy to understand. There is very little nuance in any of them. Stick with the top tier companies BCBS, Aetna, Humana and United Health. Stay away from the build a plan 2nd tier carriers. Stick with well known life carriers like AIG, Genworth and Banner. Keep your carriers limited to lessen the learning curve.

Marketing: Shared internet leads will be your best bet. They can be reached more readily in evening. You should pay no more that $7 per lead and it will take you 15 leads to get a sale in the beginning. Health with be far easier to do than life initially but you can always use life as an add-on sale. IHIAA (Independent Health Insurance Agents Association) offers training as well as substantial discounts on technology and leads as a benefit of membership.

Technology: Get a quote engine Insurint does both health and life. Web share to do online presentations and electronic applications.

Contracts: Talk to me if you want contracts for any of these carriers I'm a General Agent for Health Choice One. We offer all the training you'd ever need through convenient webinars that can be viewed in recorded form if live webinars don't meet your schedule.

Cheers

You will need to concentrate on wage earners who work during the day but are available evenings and weekends. You could probably work the seniors market on the weekends but probably not with the evenings,

ILIAA - that's a new one for me, I'll have to check it out. What would be the virtue of going through this association?
Oh, and "getting life contracts from rick" - is this from Primerica you mean?

Rick started ILIAA. Primerica is NOT a system I would in any way, shape or form endorse for you in your situation. NAA wouldn't be any better. That is of course if you're going the life insurance route which may or may not be the way you want to go. Either way it would be worth getting in touch with them.

You're right, P&C will take more time than you have to give. Health and life require some service work, too, but they're not even in the same league as P&C from what I understand.

As for how joining the ILIAA could help you, I'll send you a PM.

I want to add one thing to what Paradigm said - there is very little nuance to the top-tier health and life carriers once you learn how they work in the first place. Once you understand how all the parts of a health insurance plan work together, learning the offerings from the big guys is simple. Learning them for the first time, however, can be a little trickier.

"Contracts: Talk to me if you want contracts for any of these carriers "

Another thing, be aware of those who offer support or encouragement about what will be a hard situation for you, at the same time offering you contracts.

If their encouragement only centers around you signing onto something, be aware. Lots of sharks in these waters and you resemble chum.

I work 1 and 1/2 days a week doing charity work, but I have periods I carve out to make calls, service etc.plus I have done this full time for 30 years. I do some night work and love working Saturdays. It is doable but unless you have a strong mentor to help you in the beginning, the odds are stacked against you. Now I know you don't want to hear anything negative, but those are the facts. How are you going to learn the business. Most folks starting out working all hours takes a couple of years to break out. Can be done, good luck.

While in concur with what bluemarlin said I will add this caveat; it depends what success means to you. An income of $30,000-50,000.00 a year is very doable parttime. $100,000.00 plus a year would be more difficult. This is potentially the highest paid part time or flex time job you could ever find if you are disciplined, smart with your marketing and a quick student.

Thanks for the valuable info! It's much appreciated as it gives me ideas where to start/how to actually get started on this.
