No COBRA Subsidy in New Bill

In order to trim down the costs of the new unemployment extension bill, certain things were eliminated. One is the 65% COBRA subsidy. It was not extended so anyone qualifying for COBRA (involuntary termination) after 6/1 will NOT receive a 65% subsidy.

Never should have been a subsidy. In addition, didn't know one could get 99 weeks of unemployment benefits and getting ready to get more.
Seems to me such a disincentive for many folks to find employment.

Unfortunately the clowns in DC are attacking the symptoms, not the problem. When they back off and let the private sector create jobs things will return to normal.

It's the administration solving problems they only way they know - throw money at it. You've got a 24 year old son who doesn't have a job? Can't save money even when he does have a job? Just throw him a few hundred. That'll solve everything and he'll never need money again.

Bluemarlin is exactly right. There is absolutely 0 incentive to get back into the workforce.

yeah, that $405/wk you get a week in NY truly puts you on easy streeet. who could possibly be incentivized to earn more than $20k/yr?
