I heard that some 2016 UnitedHealthCare plans in IL will have Non-embedded Deductible, meaning that one family member may have to pay whole family deductible. Do you know anything about? How do you know which ones are those? Is it somewhere in Summary of Benefits?

Pancur,

Below is a copy/paste of a UHC quote comparison grid for 2016 plans. The Summary of Benefits documents are very "strange". I saw a couple errors just glancing over them. But, there is no language in the SOBs explaining how family deductibles/OOP work.

But this copy/paste of the comparison grid between the On Exchange Silver and the Off Exchange Silver for Illinois might indicate which of the two, if either, use a Non-Embedded deductible.

ON EXCHANGE SILVER COMPASS 3500
Deductible $3,500
Coinsurance 80/20
Family Deductible $7,000
Out of Pocket Maximum $6,600 per person, $13,200 per family

OFF EXCHANGE SILVER CoPay Select-2
Deductible $2,500
Coinsurance 70/30
Family Deductible Plan deductible applies per person
Out of Pocket Maximum $6,600 per person, $13,200 per family

Note: It looks like all United Healthcare ON-Exchange plans are HMO. OFF-Exchange are PPO.
