Obamacare and Commissions-Here It Is!

Are you guys really not understanding. UNSUBSIDIZED. DOESN'T MATTER WHAT THE CLIENT PAYS! Doesn't matter what the govt subsidy is. Whether they get a subsidy or not you get paid the exact same on the premium. Maybe some of you don't understand what unsubsidized and subsidized means. You will need to get that figured out before you try to sell this stuff and also there CANT be Major Medicals off of the exchange. The new law makes that illegal. You can't put a MAJOR MEDICAL on the market and deem it Major Medical unless it goes through the exchange or an exchange type plan. Unless they change the law many people who can't afford the new Exchange, but still want a major medical won't have that as an option. They will only have the option of a beefed up Indemnity plan which is going to upset a lot of people. Let me consult with my sources for more information :)

josh, I have agreed with most all you have posted and I also understood your OP. thanks for the info

Are you saying that a high income person, who does not want to go through the exchange, can NOT buy a major medical policy off the exchange?

If so, I have to disagree with you on that one.

You can disagree, but that's exactly what I am saying. I thought they could, but after talking with United Healthcare and Anthem they have made it very clear that it's now against the law to offer a product that is "deemed" major medical off of the exchange. To comply with the new rules you can only offer those plans through the exchange or an exchange type product. It's a game changer and it's something that all agents need to understand. As we speak right now UHC is putting together beefed up Indemnity plans that will be close to a major medical, but won't be "deemed" as well. I know United Security has just released their versions and many others will follow suit. Originally it was thought you could do this, but in fact you can't.

I would be very interested in the relevant statute. If true, how would something like this not have gotten out sooner?

let me ask josh a question as I think im on of the few here that understand some of what hes saying:

there will be 2 types of policies sold that meet the federal ACA guidelines, 10 esse. bennies... one that is subsidy eligible and the other that's not... (here we call them on exchange and off) both operate under the same rules as, GI, maternity, and other essential bennies. They both operate under the exact same enrollment periods and have the same SEP latitude.

First josh, do you agree with the above statement?

Next, there will be a market of "limited benny plans" or fixed indemnity plans sold anytime you want.

Josh, do you agree with that statement?

Agreed! aetna and uhc for example, are not on the California exchange. nothing that they sell beer in 2014 can be called a major medical? when current IFP customer plans there expire next year what will they be converted to at UHC and aetna and still be called major medical?

I disagree also, you sure can purchase a major medical off the exchange. But are you using the words major medical meaning catastrophic?

If a guy makes 500k a year and wants a silver plan we know he wont get a subsidy. He can buy it on the exchange or off the exchange. My question is what difference to him does it make?

Unless each one is priced seperatly according to claims....

Let me see here, BCBSFL is currently having their state wide seminars and I guess they are stupid because they are saying the opposite about major medicals, you can purchase on or off exchange.

I guess maybe I'm confused, are you calling catastrophic or supplementary major medicals? Well don't matter to me I will sell what I can on or off exchange and if high deductible put a critical illness, accident or hospital plan with it.
