Open Enrollment 'Exception?'

Hi Friends,

How tough is it to get MAJOR MEDICAL insurance outside open enrollment?

I happened upon a potential insured who was 'moving' to another part of town and wants insurance.

Anyone know 'how difficult is it' to get Obamacare coverage in this situation?

Thanks very much!

Can't get coverage, unless they already have creditable coverage, and would lose it due to the move. If uninsured, they are out of luck to get ACA.

I enrolled a client in January that didn't have health insurance, but moved his Family and that created a SEP for them to get coverage. Made their 3rd payment last week.

Important: You must prove you had qualifying health coverage for one or more days during the 60 days before your move. You don't need to provide proof if you’re moving from a foreign country or United States territory.

Wonder why my client got coverage then - weird?

When you've done more than 10 apps, you'll know the Marketplace does what it wants. Doesn't mean it's accurate or legal. CMS will be contacting you within 3 years to question you about your tactics.

Does that mean if they had OFF MARKET insurance, they would qualify for Obama Care if they were moving?

If it's a qualified policy, then yes. Grandfathered or ACA would work. STM would not. But, marketplace probably cant tell difference. Too many variables and unknown approval at MP. If can keep plan when moving, then probably not. Need term letter to get approved.
