Other than non-resident license, do I need a separate business license in each state?

I've been doing this for awhile and I think I know the answer, but someone I believe to be credible is causing doubt. Does my agency need to have a separate business license in each state we sell in (other than the non-resident license)?

I believe that only if you have a physical presence in each non-resident state to do business will you need a business license for a non-individual entity (DBA, LLC, Corp, etc.).

If you only receive commission and not payment directly from a client I don't think you need a business license at all.

At least that has been the case in CA and NV for resident. Non-resident has never requested a biz license.

The Secretary of State websites of the various states would probably have the answers you seek.

Depends on what you are trying to do. If you are operating as a business entity and receiving over rides on agents in various states you need your business licensed in some of them but others do not require it. It's a bit of a shell game to find out which are which.
