PA - Applying to Work for an Agent at Allstate or StateFarm

If you want to be in sales, then forget the salary. I am an Allstate Agent and I want people who are driven by commission. If you must have a salary you're looking in the wrong business. It's a "Sales"position meaning you must sell. If you can't or won't sell you don't need to be in a sales position.

That is dead on. In this business most of us are not large enough to have service specialists and need team members that can sell first, service second, since we don't make money if we don't sell anything. Sorry, but service is never going to pay much in an insurance agency unless you are the office manager of a big agency.

You are in a bad way, so you have to take what you can get. Then once you can breathe. You can always keep an eye out for a better opportunity. It is easier to find a good job when you are working. Plus you will make contacts that may help you...

I'm also Applying to an agents office, what is a resonal base salrey,I have my P&C license and have been selling for several months.

The best sales companies or agency's to work for will offer a Base plus commission,if it's commision only there the companies to stay clear of,
The good insurances agency's or the top ones will offer a base plus commission, unless you want to work independently.

Maybe if you can show them production, otherwise you have to see it on their view too. Who is going to pay you a salary if you cannot get the sales? Might as well hire a CSR for hourly pay.

Where I am at, new captive agents are offering about $21k a year plus 50% commission (about 3-7%) on average.

Keep in mind, consumers are moving towards 2nd tier regional carriers for P&C at an alarming rate due to crappy MVRs and just flat out brokenness.

I WISH an agent would offer me $30k...

I worked for Allstate in the past and there is much less demand in that business for agents and agencies. That is why they bought essurance, to limit the need for agents.

Be careful. But see if you can find someone who loves what they do, who is willing to take you under their wing...

and 30k for a new agent just learning is a lot.. and for that you will work harder than a dog. but if you get it.. a few years from now you will make 100k .. and if you do not.. you will not enjoy the time you are there.
