I know that this was discussed somewhere on the Forum, but I cannot find it.

I had a guy who had a pacemaker put in, in 2006. But about 6 months ago he had its battery replaced with a new one.

Can we do level coverage out there at a competitive premium. Cant remember if this is considered maintenance versus treatment.

he does have diabetes but no insulin.

otherwise... hes "healthy"

Each carrier may have a different rule, but that definitely sounds more like maintenance than treatment.

How much coverage you need? If 25K or more you may be able to do better with fully u/w and the above conditions shouldn't present any problem to a fully u/w case. Not as crisp and clean as FE but it may be better for the client in the long run, depending on the face amount needs/desires.

Thanks for your response, but this person's budget allows for about a 10K policy. Its going to be in the lower $50's on the monthly premium. He is 65 NonSmkr.

I don't think they change the battery anymore. Apparently they just replace the entire pacemaker. I wonder how insurance companies treat it now?

Attention: My wife has a pacer.

The pacemaker and the battery are two separate units.

The pacer is changed every 15 to 20 years. The battery is changed every 6-9 years.

RNA and a few other companies look at a BATTERY change as a non-surgical event.

Thank you very much Reardon. I have RNA, I will give their underwriting a call tomorrow. Just out of curiosity, do you know who these "other" companies are?

If you call underwriting do not give them the name of the person. Just ask genral questions. You will get different answers by calling underwriting than you will by by submitting an app.
