Hi,
I am in a strange situation, the police called me to tell that my stolen car was found, and that I have to contact the insurance which I did, so the insurance agent instructed me that i have to go to the police station to retrieve the car, i called back to know how to go about it , the police officer insisted that this the job of the insurance not mine, I called back and the insurance agent said that no it is my job!
what on earth am I supposed to do now?
any help is highly appreciated!
Thanks
John

I'm confused is the car 'totaled', damage beyond being drivable?

If YOUR car was taken for a quick 'joy ride' and is in fine driving condition WHY wouldn't you want to pick up YOUR car?

Who owns the car? If you do, then its your job. Insurance may assist, depending on the circumstances.

If the car has already been declared a total and the insurance company owns it, then they need to get it.

In the meantime, it is racking up (extra) impound fees which the insurance company will not pay if it is your car. They might pay reasonable fees, but not if the car is left without retrieval.

Well why don't the agent call the claims department and ask them how he could help you. I am an agent and I really don't know exactly how to handle this but I would call and find out for my client.

How can you ever make a decision on doing anything with out knowing all the facts. Call your agent he works for you don't let him forget that.

Have you talked to your claims adjuster? They should be able to tell you who is paying for what. But keep in mind you are being charged storage fees for the car that is just sitting there.

I am shocked that your agent has not helped you with this. That is what having an agent is all about.

100% agree with you Brenda. Plus, if an agent wants to Retain customers, she doesn't pass the buck. She solves the pain for the client.

Otherwise, they might as well call eSurance/Geico to be their agent instead of you!

Remember:
OP might have liability only insurance. If so, there is NO coverage for this. Not much an agent can do.

Way to few details to give any solid advise, other than it is the owner of the cars responsibility, ultimately.

True. Either case, I think the agent in this case should have make an effort to explain why the insurance company isn't getting the car. If he/she did that, the op wouldn't need to come to the forum.
