Preserving Client Files - How Long

I've been completely out of the business since 1/2001 and was wondering how long should you preserve your client files? I have no intention of selling in the future.

I keep dead files about 5 years. About once or twice a year we take our shredding to an Home - ARC Gateway site.

If you are in CA and those are life files. I would be happy to talk to you.

Being a construction agency in California we keep them for 10 years, as products/completed ops coverage can cover up to 10 years.
