Prevent and Get Rid of Computer Virus

Dan, MSE is at least equal to, if not superior to any of the paid services. That's what my tech guru uses. If it is good enough for him it is for me as well.

Since installing MSE I have had no issues on any of my computers.

MSE is one of the fastest of the free programs as well.

I've used Avast, AVG and Norton (trial version) and they all slow down my computer. MSE just works. Just have to have a genuine copy of Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8.

My google page keeps getting directed to all in chinese. Now I'm stuck with Yahoo for searches. I assume it's a virus, but Norton won't get rid of it, nor will malware protection.
Any other suggestions out there?

It's likely inside your windows host file. There is a flat file that stores redirect info, that's the name of it, its generally in windows system i think but it might be different from version to version.

Search for editing your windows hosts file, and see if there is something redirecting google inside there.

I do not understand what that means :GEEK:

I may be a little late to the dance, but allow me to add my recommendation for MSE. But you need protection from malware, too, not just a virus. Consider Malwarebytes. The free version requires you to update manually daily, but the pro version is only about $25 per PC lifetime charge (I think). A good bargain IMHO. I bought 3 licenses for my LAN and paid a little less than $70. (You get a volume discount.)
