Problem on the horizon for some?

Re: Problem on the horizen for some?

I got a call Fri. I debated whether to put it on here, but, here goes;

This call came from Twin Cities, Mn. He said he was a CMS investigator working on an issue with UHC about agents that got certified for UHC under a group in Ohio, which happens to be my upline for Wellcare, Chesapeake and UHC.

I had a double history with them as I first got certified for UHC thru Kingdom in the summer of '07 specifically to do the SNP's in Mo. during lock-in. They never got leads for me in Mo., so, I never submitted an app. Kingdom wouldn't release me when I asked. The group in Ohio asked me if I wanted to work in Tn. doing SNP's after Wellcare shut down the Duet in Ky and In. in May of this year. I told them that I couldn't because of Kingdom. They had some kind of reciprocal agreement with Kingdom and I was released by them. I did have to do all the '08 certications and did them and got certified for Americhoice in Tn. Turns out, they didn't have a true SNP in Tn., so, I didn't do any business with them.

This investigator said that there is an allegation that UHC certifications were done by the upline for "12 to 15" agents. I did mine myself and was able to show that. He went on to ask if I had any info of this going on or if I was offered help with my certifications. I told that I was not offered help, didn't need help and this was all completely out of blue for me. I also told him that I would be shocked if there was any truth to this particularly with The Ohio Med Agency.

That was pretty much the end of our conversation. He did say I may hear from them again. I don't know if there is any fire there, but, this guy was blowing a lot of smoke.

Don't speculate with him on anything, especially in regard to what the agency may or may not have done or what you would or would not be shocked by. Answer only what you directly did or directly know and dont be afraid to just give a one word answer if that is sufficient. If he has allegations, then that is his job to work with the people who made them and not go on a fishing expedition.

Excellent advice... can't be beat!

Absolutely! Be very aware while selling anything medical to a senior or disabled person this year. CMS is breathing down the necks of all and treating everyone same regardless of the insurance agents intentions, so even if you make the slightest mistake you may be treated with same punishments as those agents out there who have been mistreating prospects and clients and making it rough for us all. Gestapo...oh I mean CMS is ENCOURAGING all clients to call them over the slightest problems and then making those complaints into huge problems for insurance agents. CMS can authorize fines and even take away your insurance license even if the mistakes are small. So unless you are able to abide 100% and be on your toes all the time, you might want to consider a different career.

I think this is an over-reaction. Many of us know of agents that have gotten in Dutch with CMS, and in my case, the ones that I know have certainly deserved it.

Listen, friend. A little "free" advice... (worth every penny)... do your due diligence and don't worry. As my grandmother used to say, "only the guilty run and hide". If you do your dead level best, your conscience will not convict you. That's not to say that somebody somewhere is not going to be falsely accused.... lightning strikes the innocent as well as the guilty, usually because they are in the wrong place at the wrong time. That's life.

The idea of looking for a different method of making money has merit. I remember President-Elect Obama saying that he knew that money was being wasted in Medicare, especially the private insurance plans. I have a feeling that he will be cutting back soon! His people believe that Medicare Advantage was a "right wing conspiracy" designed to put money in people's pockets.
