Hello all,

I read a post here about a organization that's a great start for someone new to the industry. I just got my license yesterday and am signing up with mutual of Omaha I'm looking for general guidance. I'm a former Marine, ran my own business and have no industry experience.

Thanks in advance

I am a huge supporter of NAIFA- National Association of Insurance and Financial Professionals. They do an amazing job to keep us employed. Depending on where you are, your local chapter may have opportunities for CE credits as well as networking. NAIFA also has a Subgroup called YAT- Young Advisors Team. YAT is for agents under 40 OR have less than 5 years in the business.
I encourage you to visit their website- naifa.org and look around. Find a chapter and jump in. Good luck to you!

I definitely second the notion of finding a good YAT group with a local chapter. Even if it's a different chapter than what covers your office, a well run YAT group will help give you some additional clarity and focus.

However, an industry association cannot take the place of a great training program by your office.

The only other consideration I would add, would be to enroll in FSCP courses by The American College. These are sales skills and product training courses. Almost every insurance firm will reimburse (or outright pay for) these courses. I know Mutual of Omaha will... as long as you are producing.

Academics - Insurance Education - FSCP - Financial Services Certified Professional - The American College
