Qualify or Not

How many of you qualify the proposed client's ability to afford/pay a policy before setting the appointment?

I usually don't, however I'm tired of my wife calling me a schmuck for wasting my time on people with no ability to pay.

I get that your lonely but don't have me drive 45 miles if you can't afford $31 a month. (he couldn't afford the $20 GI Moo he just got in the mail)

I know some of you will think this is just an objection and not the true reason for not going ahead with an application, but is was true. $750 SSI per month income with a mortgage of $300:1mad:

This is going to sound opposite of what I usually say but if I were driving that distance for one appointment then I would qualify it before going.

I don't do any qualifying on the phone normally because I am setting 6 appointments in the same area anyway. And I will have other leads for that area with me to doorknock or call from my car if I get no showed or have an appointment take 5 minutes or so.

Bottom line, if I'm going to be in that area anyway then no qualifying. If it's a special trip for one person, I qualify.

I agree, thanks for the response.
Just getting started and I don't have an inventory of leads to door knock or call in that area yet.

One thing you might do as well as get a list of people that fit the same demographic as your lead and door knock them. It makes the 45 mile drive seem like less of a waste.

+1 on the list, make your time more targeted and effective while you are there, get some door hangers with tear-off BRM, some companies offer them for their agents or make your own delivery type notices

yea I agree, Door knock until your broke and then go back to selling cars just like 99.99% of the others who have tried to make a living selling FE by doorknocking.

If your so broke you can't afford leads, doorknock for a couple of months and while doing so eat nothing but beans; and then when you can, BUY LEADS .

and some real food, you will live longer and look better

I'm not so sure he should take this advice when he'll be working with the public. :1arghh:
