Question Regarding Producer Appointment Application

I recently received my P&C license, but I'm concerned about my ability to receive appointments from insurers. I have a 1st offense DWI on my record. When I applied for my license on the NIPR site, the background questionnaire portion of the application indicates you may exclude DUIs/DWIs. I have noticed that typical producer appointment applications simply ask about ANY misdemeanor offenses. Is it likely that insurers will view a 1st offense DWI as a less serious infraction like the NIPR does or will this prevent me from being appointed by insurers? I wholeheartedly understand how serious drunk driving is, but this was an isolated incident and I'm fortunate that nobody was hurt. I'm hoping since I got the approval for the state license things will be ok, but any input regarding this issue is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think you'll get mixed results, some carriers may appoint others not. Don't know until you try.Sounds like you're new to industry, suprise, you'll have a hard time, even without the infraction, getting appointed based on your lack of experience ?? and production requirements. But all is not lost, check out Clusters, aggregators, etc to get carrier access, management systems and training. Good luck.

Anyone new in the industry should have no business trying to start an agency. Best you find a local agency in your area and learn the business for a year or more. I don't think you will have an issue getting hired as a Producer for a local agency.

Mike007 is right on.

Learn the ropes, work under another agent, use his / her carriers. They'll let you use his appointment, though some will want you to get directly appointed as well. You'll probably be fine. As long as you're completely honest and it was just one time offense. Later, if you, you can go off on your own.
