Regional Carriers

First, I want to thank everyone who contributed to the forums. It was great to learn and gain knowledge about the process of going independent. I began my training with State Farm a year ago and decided to go independent. I opened up office and am appointed with progressive for standard and Unitrin for non standard. Also, I am working with a MGA for commercial. I am researching to add one more standard auto carrier. Can someone recommend a regional standard auto carrier that serves Texas? I did a google search but recommendations are always a blessing. Lastly, I have been concentrating on Auto to build my business because most companies are not appointing homeowners due to hurricane Ike. Any suggestions on companies that are still appointing homeowners would be greatly appreciated as auto and home go hand in hand. Many thanks in advance for your help.

Everyone seems to write Auto in TX. I would continue to seek out more information there. I am pretty familiar with the non standard in TX but the standard and preferred are a different game.

For home/property I would look at American Strategic Insurance I hear good things about them and they are still appointing as far as I know.
I would ask for second opinions on them because I am only going on what other agents have told me. I have not personally written for them.
