There is no way the dems can pretty this up Massachusetts and Kennedy's seat are the Holy, Holy, Holy Grail of the democratic party. If they win, they can stumble a little longer but it is not pretty either way. It has gotten too far down the road for them already.

You are right though. If it happens, it will be about the same way that Al would feel if he found out that he was going to have Barbara Boxers baby.

Unfortunately, I just got off the phone with a few people that have millions of dollars on the line and they confirmed.

The Senate Dems have the power to delay the swearing in of Kennedy's replacement sometime until after the Health Care Reform vote....

But there's talk of getting TV ads to allow public outcry from the opposition. That's why just in the last half hour another million, counting 2 million today alone he has received in funding. They said the Senate of both parties often sway to media perception.

If Brown wins, there will be other dem Senators who suddenly get religion and are not going to be anxious to have their name permanently assigned to the bill. Even if they voted for it once, they will still have the face-saving excuse that they cannot support some provision that was added in conference. It only takes one or two to put themselves ahead of the party (could happen).

And then there is whatever is going on in the house too. They are watching the Mass thing more fervently because they are all up for re-eleciton - all of them. I would not want to even attempt to analyze what that food fight will look like but am willing to watch. The pundits can focus on cloture in the Senate but who says the House is ready to roll with it. No one has even appointed a conference committee yet. Personally I dont see any scenario that would put the bill through due to delayed certification in Mass. But of course we are talking nasty, non-transparent Chicago politics. But that is also working against them too.
