See Prospect's Current Coverage

Hi Everyone,

I just started selling with SAIS and I'm wondering if there are any third parties that offer the ability to see what limits/coverage my prospects have. I've noticed most people don't seem to know what their current limits are.

When I was at State Farm a while back shopping for auto insurance they were able to pull my current policy (at the time) with Progressive (sans pricing, of course).

Any ideas? Anyone even know what this tool is called?

That info comes from a CLUE report. No reason to go through a third party for that. That could get expensive real quick. Simply run the clue report before finishing the quote.

BlockO - Are you saying I can run the CLUE report from SAIS or EZLynx? Or is there another way to run it without using a third party?

What lines is it available for? Auto and home? Some commercial? Just auto?

Thanks for the help so far!

milkman, how many of your carriers charge for clue?

I know more and more carriers are starting to charge for clue but I thought most still don't.

Some carriers will run the clue prior to you ordering it, and they don't charge for clue. These are the carriers you want to quote with first.

If there's a clue match, you now have prior insurance info, vin #'s, and sometimes even drivers lic #'s.

Also, i forgot to mention to the op.... From my experience, when a customer doesn't know what level of liability they currently have, they more often than not have state minimum coverage, or only slightly higher limits. People who carry 100/300 or higher tend to know what they carry. ;)

Dwh, i'm not familiar with sais or ezlynx. Cant help you with that question.

I start with carriers that I know give the most clue info without charging for it.

Thanks for the follow up. Any carriers you can recommend that provide this and may be somewhat easy for a newbie to get appointed? Maybe Progressive or Foremost? Do they have it?

What state are you IN? Some states do not care about your prior insurance..like CA do not give credit if you have prior insurance so they will not run prior insurance report.:goofy:

they do a soft clue for matching vin#, address, name, license# to see if there is a conflict of information.

but i know if you want to check what prior coverage for how long etc... you need to run the clue and it cost me each time, and for monoline car, my closing rate is like below 50% so i refuse to run it unless they show some indication they are willing to buy or show dec page to get a "proper" rate.

I always quote with what they know and tell them its subject to change based on verified facts.

some other brokers here charge up front 20 dollars for MVR/CLUE for auto quote application.

From my experience, a soft clue is more likely to show prior insurance info than it is license #'s. I only got license #'s from one carrier.

Are you captive or indy? If you're indy, are your appointments direct or through a cluster?

Maybe that's the difference. I don't have many carriers, but the ones I have for now are all direct.

Perhaps maybe you should seek out one direct appt. with a company that is more friendly about charges. As long as you write some apps with them, they won't mind.

I get dinged about $20 a month for mvr's but I never pay for clue. But my agency is very small. I can see where that could rack up quickly with a large agency.
