See the People!!!

The three producers I started with at my intial firm, one was a TOT producer (north of $500,000 FYC and over $1,000,000 total comp for the year) and two COT producers. None of the three were always "on". They did what needed to be done during the day, then went home and didn't think twice about business. Small sample size, but it does show it can be done without talking to everyone you run across in a parking lot. This is not meant to be a knock on Mark.

The old saying is: "The money makers do what the non-moneymakers won't do."

Their is a big difference in mentality from someone who say makes 500K-1M FYC as opposed to someone who is knocking down 2.5M-5M FYC consistently.

It is all about networking. To give an example; I once bought a corvette so that I could belong to the corvette club. The 65K I dropped on the car allowed me the opportunity to meet people I otherwise would not have met. Just from the corvette club I have made in the neighborhood of 600K-700K in the past 3 years. Not a bad ROI, not to mention a pretty neat car.

Next year I hope to join the ferrari club:)...........Combining my passion for cars with the ability to sell. That is what it is all about.

That may be true. But for what it's worth, the people that I know that make in excess of 250k per year would never talk about their income in a Forum setting. "Just sayin" as they say!

I couldn't agree more about seeing the people. In insurance and in every business, networking and meeting new people and friends is a great way to expand your business. Join the Corvette club, join hobby clubs like Trout Unlimited, join a church, go to Sunday school, go to potlucks, join a golf club, if you're single go to mixers, if you're married go to the park, just go out there and be social and meet new people. You never know where you'll meet your next customer. It could be at the gas station or it could be at the bait shop.

On a side note, we didn't stay at 110 for long.

C'mon guys, in a nice sports car, that is almost brand new, you would not show it off and push it one good time and brag about it?? I asked him how long it took him to go to 0 to 60 and he just floored it until we hit 110 and then he stopped.

I don't think this is a 9 to 5 kind of job and I think that we must always be on or in standby mode.

One of my goals in prospecting is to start talking to everyone that I see and to see who all I can help.

I do the same thing with Motorcycles...They love to show them off and talk about them.

Whenever someone mentions driving "stupid fast," I'm reminded of what happened 6 years ago when I bought a Yamaha FZ-1. It's not the fastest bike made, but 140ish HP with under 400 lbs. means it's way too fast for me.

My then 16 year old son went for a short ride and when he arrived home he excitedly announced, "Dad, it's only supposed to go 95 in 2nd gear and I hit 100!"

I then asked him where this happened. He told me it was a side street a few blocks from here.

As his father, you know I was soooo proud! I proceeded to then ban him from riding the bike for several months.

Aaron...I guess the common middle ground here is that "Anything goes" (almost) when you are new in the business and need to get prospects fast.

But most brokers that have been around a while don't have to join a club to sell insurance.

For those that do...that's fine. For those that don't...that's fine too. We only belong to one club (Tennis). We have been members for about 28 years and I have only sold one policy to a member. And that guy found me by accident online. I don't fell like I missed out on anything.

Now...if you'll excuse me, I need to go the bathroom. But I'll bring a business card in case I see someone in the stall next to me.

I find it best to stick a business card into the tip of my shoe and just tap it under the wall between the stalls. Sometimes I get a happy surprise if you get my drift.

Who said that was my total income? My point being; find something outside of the insurance business your are passionate about, and incorporate it.

I find it humerous when someone bashes another person just becasue to them it may not be conventional. Ask anyone who knows me; I am anything but conventional.......LOL

You could also start meeting other people, for what it is worth. Just a thought.
