Senate Okays Repeal of 1099 Provision

Dumb people don't care about consequences. That's why we still have people getting DWI's.

In many states if you get caught driving uninsured penalties range from your car being impounded to jail time. Still, nationally 12% of all drivers are uninsured.

So when jail time doesn't matter I'm pretty sure an IRS fine won't matter. When I sold health insurance in-home I'd leave 400K homes without a deal and I was at $250/mo for a family plan.

It didn't occur in my lifetime, and probably not yours either.

Actually, it did.

Anything that happened after the Dark Ages was in my lifetime and I have forgotten very little.

FWIW, I will answer my own question.

No, auto rates did not triple with mandatory car insurance. Care to guess why?

Please tell me, Bob.

Perhaps it was because SR-22 filings were already in place and with mandatory auto carriers were not required to issue everyone unlimited liability limits and no deductible auto plans.

You think we could get Obama working on this after they pass a budget? It sounds like a real problem. What about the drunk, he could lose his home if there is a limit to liability. And what about the poor college student, what if he can't afford a $500 deductible, or even a $100 one?

We have high DUI rates because punishments for doing it amount to a slap on the wrist in the scheme of things.

If we were like Canada or Europe where a year in jail is the minimum sentence for DUI we'd see a lot less of it. Sure, there'd still be a few idiots that do it, but there'd be fewer idiots that do it, and that is the relevant detail for public safety.

There's an idea! We could subsidize their premium, and even include coverage for pre-existing events. That would solve the budget crisis in DC if the CBO calculates things correctly. We should pass the bill NOW, so we can find out what's in it.
