I don't know if this has been asked here before, but when looking at SEO, does it really matter if your page comes up after page 5 or so on google rankings? I know that whenever I'm personally looking for anything and can't find it by page 3, I'll try a different search term. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

After one page, let alone two, if I cannot find my answer I usually re-phrase my search words.

For you SEO guys, is it really worth it? I have a website, but the only traffic I get is from clients checking it out on their own after they receive a letter from me.

I am willing to spend some $$ on SEO if it works. For you guys/gals that use it, is it worth it?

Thanks.
Mike

It's worth it.

Think up something you're interested in, that you really love to do. Say you're a nerd like me, and you like to blow off stress by contact juggling. And say you want to learn to do a better butterfly.

So you Google "how to do a contact juggling butterfly." The first link is a great resource (actually, it's the one I used to learn how to do a butterfly in the first place). But I was very, very interested in doing it right, so I went through each link on the first two pages that looked relevant. By the time I did that, I had almost hit an information overload.

Now, I was having fun so I read more than I might otherwise have. But I think we all know from experience that the vast majority of people looking up health insurance information online are in an awful mood to begin with. They want their information, they want their quote, they want their savings, and they want to be done. The reason SEO is a huge and growing industry is that being on the first page means getting more results and making more money. When was the last time you looked past page two or three for anything you were truly interested in?

If you're not on the first page, most likely you won't be found. A good way to confirm this is to check your tracker in your website. If you get a click from a keywords that doesn't have you listed on the first page, it's not going to happen very often!

Something like 80-95% of people don't go past the first page of search results (I can't remember the exact statistic, but I can look it up!)

I have found marketing articles that talk about what positions on Google generate what results as well as what factors people look at when deciding whether or not they should contact a local business online. They're interesting to me b/c I'm in marketing, but if anyone is interested in that stuff, I can post the articles once I locate them later at home :)

Coming up on page 5 is only good if you are still doing SEO. Bringing a site from page 5 to page 1 is easier than bringing it from page 100 to page 1.

It is not a good stopping point, but if you have seen steady movement in the right direction page 5 is good.

Sometimes the difference between page 5 and page 1 is a small one. It really depends on your competition and your SEO strategy.

If you are on page 5 with no SEO strategy, you may be in a better position than you realize.

What are you using your site for?

If you are wanting to generate leads from it then you need to get on the first page.

I can't imagine page 5 giving you any leads.

Page one will generate leads.

If you are number one on page one then you should generate a lot of leads.
