Should I Buy Now or Later?

I currently do not have health insurance. My employer does not offer any, and I can't afford to buy it now on my own.

I do not understand all the in's and out's of health insurance, so I am looking for a simple answer, in plain english, please!

After Obamacare goes into effect, will the cost of insurance go down? And/Or will the Obamacare offerings be more affordable?

Thanks!

Most likely the cost will be going up. The idea they'll go down is a myth. That said, there are going to be subsidies coming from tax money that may make your net premium lower, but it will increase the nations tax burden.

Very difficult to give you an answer (as Josh states) and I agree with him that it will more than likely cost more, but with subsidies available, hard to determine.

If you truly cannot affford the current prices, I would check with your state insurance dept (or other resource) for coverage available to low-income persons. You may have something available to you.

Pardon me if I am incorrect but don't companies often raise the premiums on January 1. If you buy before then you can't you sometimes get the previous year's rates.

Buy LATER if you want.. But if you have a serious illness or accident NOW, don't whine and cry and expect the taxpayers or other rate payers to bail you out.

A lot of times in life, the things I put off turn around and bite me.

Like that tooth that was hurting, that small roof leak, filing my taxes and many other things.

Do whatever you can today, because we are never sure about tomorrow.

It is always better to buy insurance when you are young and healthy vs old and sick.

Good answer............

Thanks for all the feedback!

The reason I, well we, do not have health insurance is neither my wife's, or my, employer offers any. We are older (50+) with some health issues. That is why we don't have any, the cost is puts it out of our reach.

We did have good insurance up to a year and a half ago, when my former employeer let several of us go, economic cutbacks, Thanks Obama!!!

We have look into this and what is offered would cost us over 1100 per month. Way out of our budget!

But thanks!
