Show your age by posting a gadget kids today wouldn't understand

We did too but it was in the other room.

I'd have to go into the other room and my dad would call out "three clicks towards west, ok now back one the other way, right there!"
What was rough was before we got one of those and had to go outside in all kinds of weather to turn it by hand. Every time it came a hard rain or wind, I was standing outside with my granddad yelling through the window.

This is actually mine given to me by my grandfather. Its a Radio. People used to gather around it and listen.View attachment 8770
When I was a kid living in the Virginia mountains, we were very poor and didn't own a TV. However, my dad got hold of an old Bakelite shelf radio like this one. Our little house wouldn't get good reception for anything but the nearest local station. So my dad set the radio up on a shelf. Then he made an antenna out of the spiral wire from a notebook, stretched it out, and fed it through the corner of a window and up onto the roof. Then we could pick up WSM out of Nashville. I went to sleep every Saturday evening listening to the Grand Ole Opry on that old radio.46634F8C-1A5D-43A1-9144-74C15569FAD9.jpeg
