Smartphones For Insurance Business

bb is only good for email, that's it.

I have a G2 from Tmobile...

...better phone/call functions, better 3 way calling putting people on holding, dropping calls....

.....ability to view full websites, not just mobile sites.....

much better camera.......

more apps you can use for business....

I have an EVO.

It pushes my Domain and Gmail emails. Automatically syncs with My office, Google Apps and phone calendar and contacts.

I have not owned either the Iphone or BB. I like this phone. being an old guy, I really like the large clear screen. Company websites are easy to see. My area only gets 3g but it is plenty fast enough for me. In the office or back yard I can connect to wifi. The little kick stand is really useful.

I use the voice text, email and search a lot. Sprint includes their navigation as well as droid's. The most important "app" is Compulife, to me. I have not used it to do an online app yet. Need to try that. Not sure about security of that. Since I tend to run appointments in areas away from home, I use the Places app to find gas, coffee or restaurants. When shopping anything large I use the bar code reader.

I agree, great camera and video.

Oh also, Battery is not great. However, I get 2 batteries and a block charger for about $10. Got a couple spares in the "Battle Wagon" and at my desk.

Does it automatically check for email or do I need to open the program first?

Rick

Well, it's a matter of definition. A push is where a message (such as a text or IM or some notification) is sent by an outside source directly to your cell phone with no stopping along the way.

Email with most domains is not push... it is poll. Your cell phone is set to poll your [email protected] mailbox on Hostgator (or wherever it ends up) each XX seconds. Now perhaps your ISP (Hostgator I believe) has "push" technology such that it knows your cell phone IP and will send either a notification or the actual email file. This kind of technology is often called an "exchange server." When you turn on your cell phone it broadcasts its IP (and location) to the exchange sever which "logs it" and knows were to send mail if it comes in. Gmail is one. I believe Hotmail is an exchange server. I know MobileMe is. You'd have to check with your domain's ISP... but I'd bet you the cost of one year dues with ILIAA (assuming you would let me back in... which I doubt!) that your domain host does not run in "exchange" mode. It's an expensive platform to support. (Ask me how often MobileMe or Gmail mail goes "out"... which is why I don't bother with them.)

Web hosts who use the Windows platfrom (IIS server) will sometimes offer Exchange... but most ISPs run on a Linux or FreeBSD platform. So if your are hosting greensky.com on a Windows server maybe you can get Exchange... but I'd still bet that they don't offer it... it's a bitch to maintain (like everything in Windows-land!)

If you really want "instant" email what a lot of people do is that they get a Gmail account and they set their email box on their ISP's server to immediately FORWARD any/all mail to the Gmail address which then pushes it to the mobile device.

Personally, I find that having my iPhone and iPad POLL my email box every 60 seconds is fine for my use. How fast do you really NEED to get email?

One item. If you are going to use POLL for mail sitting in your domain's mailbox you want to set up your mobile (and your desktop computer) to use the IMAP protocol instead of the POP protocol.

Difference? Major. POP (as a default) grabs the whole email and downloads it to the mobile device and ERASES IT off the mail server.

The IMAP protocol instead just gets the the title of the email (and maybe a few lines of it) but LEAVES it on the server.

Example: I sent you an email. You are in your new and very expensive MB or playing Pebble Beach (because you make 6 figures as you so often remind us.)

When you go into your mobile mail application and you want to see an email, it then fetches the rest of it... but STILL LEAVES it on the server.

Two huge advantages to IMAP: a) it is technically more efficient (you have to trust me on that.) b) when you get home the email can be read on your office computer... UNLESS YOU DELETED IT ON THE MOBILE DEVICE.

So, when I sent an email to xxx@greensky you can read it on your cell phone and if you don't move it to trash, when you get to your office you can see it on your PC/Mac as well.

I believe Gmail is IMAP by default, but I'm not sure as I don't use it.

So, it is not really a question of whether the Droid will do push and pull... it will... but it depends on where the mail is going to... your domain or to an exchange server technology like Gmail.

I hope this helps.

If it does, don't worry you are still allowed to hate me.

Ladies and gentlemen, there you have it. The Android pushes, pulls, kicks and screams!

Which phone has the app that automatically detects when someone wants to buy insurance and then all their contact information pops up on the screen and then navigates you right to them?

Give me an example of the "better apps".....a lot of people who own droids always say how much better they are than BB. I'm not disagreeing but outside of the browser I have yet to understand how they provide me so much more than a berry.

I just returned from the Verizon store. I asked about email

The blackberry server receives email from my server and "pushes" it to my device. The phone itself does not have to ask for the mail.

Other devices have to actively request the email and this is much harder on the battery than the system used by BB.

As far as my expensive MB, I guarantee you I paid less for the used car I bought than Al paid for his Civic DX.

Which BB model do you use?
I can't believe ole' Al drives one of those gas guzzling Honda Civics he ought to be ashamed of himself. Now if he has the Nat Gas model we should nominate him for the "Environmentalist of the Year Award".
