Smoker's Hit on the Exchange

So, here's a question for anyone in the know about subsidies.... Does the subsidy pay the smoker rate? Or do the taxpayers only subsidize the non-smoker rate leaving the smoker to pay the difference?

Since this is a government program, I'll wager that taxpayers will subsidize everything.

"Smokers will not have to pay the 50% surcharge if they're enrolled in a smoking cessation program. I suppose you could stay enrolled (and continue to smoke) forever, since your health insurance will pay the cost of the program 100%, LOL."
**********************************************
Sounds like a Smoking Sensation Program! Excuse me as I go light up a big fat Opus X.

The surcharge is for tobacco smokers only, those who smoke marijuana will be given a gift box and a reduced rate, because it is the right thing to do.

If you smoke pot, don't work and vote democrat, you will be eligible for free health insurance and more entitlements from the evil people that work, pay taxes and don't smoke.

Sorry, but it's in the bill.

1) The maximum load for tobacco use for an individual will be 50%. Carriers will decide what they want to try and use, but will of course be subject to approval of the proposed load.
2) Yes, honest answers to tobacco questions will be an issue.
3) Smoking cessation exception is only for group coverage.
4) Tobacco loaded part of premium will not be subsidized. Another reason to be less than honest in answering tobacco use questions.

Hello ActuaryGuy! I welcome every person who joins this forum, but having an actuary on the forum will be especially beneficial! If you continue to share such valuable information as you just did, you may become one of my favorite posters. And I promise that I won't tell any actuary jokes. Thanks for posting.

hahahaha... Sorry, I didn't notice his start date. Well, you know what they say about actuaries being slow to speak... they would have become accountants if it wasn't for the required interaction with people. Sorry, ActuaryGuy, I had to do it.

I agree, I probably am.

There ya go, second post today. Who says we're not social?

Proof! He must be an actuary, because he stated the probability. He's social and funny, too. Oops, that means he's not an actuary. Well, probably not. Well, at least at risk of not being an actuary.
