New to the forum and would like some advice/information from some more experienced agents in the senior market.
I am currently an independent agent contracted with different insurance companies, working under a GA. I am not familiar with how these hierarchies work and how it would work for me for my individual situation. This has been my first full year and I have learned a lot, so much that I feel very confident in my knowledge of the senior market and all the products, rules and regulations that come with it. Here is my situation and my questions...
I am not the primary breadwinner in my household as I have been a stay at home mom for some time now. My primary job is still "mom" and now that both kids are in school, I wanted to find something to do part time that would allow me to be on my kids schedule year round (holidays, summers). This has proven to work very well for me in meeting those needs, has given me something to do for myself and I have thoroughly enjoyed helping my clients. I have come to learn that this business is built with what each individual puts into it. To those of you who go full throttle into your businesses, I respect that, however for my family right now, this is not where I am. Don't get me wrong, I do want to eventually build upon this business, and I still do everything to take care of my clients, but right now I have to keep things under control for my current family situation. With this in mind, I was wondering if I could still quite possibly go off on my own and become a GA myself so the clients that I work so hard to obtain over the years are, in fact, "my clients". Are there quotas, or other criteria that needs to be met to become a GA that would avoid me from keeping my p/t schedule how it is now? Are there pros/cons to going off on my own? Where would I start to accomplish this?
I appreciate any help/suggestions anyone has to give. I don't feel as if I have a neutral ground to go to and ask such questions without any "awkwardness" and I feel as if it has never been fully explained to me how this all works. I simply don't like going into something blind, so to say. Thanks in advance!
