So Mitt is for Guaranteed Issue Now

yea, what problem do we have with hippa and cobra?

we already have guaranteed issue for people coming off of insurance plans

its called cobra and hipaa

So what Mitt is proposing was already in place before Obama Care was enacted

mitt said this

"I'm not getting rid of all of health care reform. Of course, there are a number of things that I like in health care reform that I'm going to put in place. One is to make sure that those with pre-existing conditions can get coverage. Two is to assure that the marketplace allows for individuals to have policies that cover their family up to whatever age they might like."

so it looks like mitt is back tracking pretty fast from what he said Sunday

the problem is we already have this it's called

cobra & hipaa

and PCIP.

PCIP is an answer for those who do not have access to, or cannot afford COBRA or HIPAA plans.

PCIP will go away in 2014 if Obamacare remains in play. Otherwise, there is no reason why it cannot be made permanent.

not really because you cant have insurance for 6 months to qualify for pcip

so cobra & hipaa would be the route to go if your sick

unless you want pay cash for 6 months till you qualify for PCIP

Plus they would have to find funding for PCIP last I heard it was burning though cash at a rapid rate.

After hearing on the radio today that 68% of Americans now receive some sort of government check (ie food stamps, VA Benefits, Disability, Unemployment, SocSecurity, etc.), I'm starting to get the feeling that Romney will not win.

Obama's strategy of making people at least partially dependent on Uncle Sam (and therefore Uncle Barack) may work.

However, if the Oil Executives can get gas to $5.00+ per gallon just before the election, as they stated in a board meeting, ALL consumers will feel the pain and might turn to Romney for the potential of relief.

Ah, but you must first have a job with health insurance before COBRA or HIPAA.

And I assume you mean "you're" not "your"

Obamacare needs funding, especially the exchanges and taxpayer subsidies.

Allegedly the exchanges will have open enrollment.

PCIP is pretty much off the table

mitt has clarified his stance on the issue

"His campaign later told TPM he wasn't signaling a shift in policy and was instead referring to his existing stance in favor of protections on preexisting conditions only for those with continuous insurance coverage — not for first-time or returning buyers."

I agree with you that COBRA, HIPAA, and PCIP are current solutions, but only for group clients or those uninsured for 6 months. Reading Romney's comments carefully, you can see that he is including those who have been continuously insured in the IFP market, too.

It could have been easily written into HCR that people with existing policies would be guaranteed the option to change to any new plan offered by their insurer with a same or higher deductible to avoid blocking of business/death spirals....but that would be too easy.

David, what you are suggesting is obvious to those who have been in the insurance business for a while.

But the folks who wrote this mess are lawyers with no real world business experience. Heck, they didn't even read the bill before passing it.
