Interesting details about Search, Lots of Buzz about Social Media Sites and blah, blah, blah. But when it comes right down to it, Search Engines and Major Portals will Prevail and Always will.

Does not mean that Facebook, or Twitter does not deliver traffic, but Search will Always be Razor Targeted Results!! :)

The following graph from Nielsen shows how big of a role sites besides search engines play in actual searches for new information online.

Buying and selling are two different things and two different processes.

People search when they are BUYING or LOOKING.

When salespeople (like us) are wanting to sell and attract people to work with us, social media CAN help with that.

No, I've never made a sale because of my involvement in Facebook or LinkedIn.

The way I see it social media is a way to push information to those you already know and have some type of relationship with. Search is used when people are trying to find info. on something or someone they most likely do not already have a relationship with. Two very different things in my opinion so you can't really compare the two.

i am curious what the difference between a search engine and a search portal is.

The difference between search portal and search engine can probably best be summed up in this excerpt from an article Adage.com blog, posted 6/1/09:

The idea of a search engine is to get you where you want to go fast, based on the queries you enter. The idea of a portal is to give you all the content you need so you don't have to go anywhere else.
