Social Security Debit Card Trick

Yes 5Star will take the Direct Express card. Using the card account number and getting the bank routing number for other cards will generally not work, unless it s a Net Spend card (sometimes). With other cards the draft will be returned (even if you get the account and routing number) because the account is "non-transactional," meaning that you can use the routing and account number for direct deposits, but not for EFT payments.

You didn't read my question right. I know 5 Star takes Direct Express, I use them. I said aren't there companies that take credit cards BUT WILL NOT take direct express. Monumental was one when they took credit cards but not direct express. Wonder what makes direct express different that they wouldn't take it even though it had the Mastercard Logo and can be used at retailers that take Mastercard.

Despite displaying the MasterCard logo, the Direct Express card has tighter regulations than a regular credit or debit card, because it is solely used to administer federal benefits. For instance, you cannot use the Direct Express card to purchase gas at the pump (only from the attendant inside), and it isn't always accepted by online merchants - all of this is put in place to help limit fraud. Most transactions from the card need to be either PIN-based or done in person with a cashier, which is why other companies that accept credit cards (Balt Life, etc.) won't take Direct Express, because it would be declined automatically by Comerica, the issuing bank.

Aren't there companies that take credit/debit cards but will not take the SS/Direct Express Mastercard? If so then they can't be lumped together. Something makes them different. Anyone know what?
I think the first four numbers of the account number identify it as a direct express debit card..
