Social Security Statement Confusions...

Is anyone else getting a lot of communications from clients confused about their 2025 SS statements?

Apparently SSA is displaying Part C and Part D as two separate amounts for MAPD members causing a lot of confusion on their parts. I don't remember it being displayed like this in years past...

Example -- MAPD Premium: $64/month. SSA letter shows:
Medicare Medical Insurance (Part B and C) -$185.20
Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (Part D) - $63.80

However the client isn't even on the $64 dollar plan for 2025 and made the switch early in November to a new plan but received this in December/January, so they think there's an issue with their new policy.

I would attribute that to confused social security system programmers. They probably did not make a correct flowchart of the program changes they needed to implement.

And the new part c plan carrier may have been slow in reporting the new plan to social security leading to ss having a lag in reporting correct info and charging correct premium.

IF client has internet access they can check their my Medicare account to see the correct coverage shows there.

As long as client has a welcome packet and new id cards I'd think ss will catch up eventually.

I guess if one is being really paranoid, a call to the carrier could be made to verify they did process the new plan app to have ss billing.

The section of the statement you're referring to is simply for common deductions from their SS check.

Part B and C - Simply the total of their premiums deducted for both. Some people pay for C and some don't. And some have their part B premium deducted and some don't.

Part D - For those that have their premium deducted. Some pay by check.

The other two sections are for withholding taxes.

What I was told when I called SS was that it can take until Feb for changes to show up in SS if the changes were made in Dec or late Now. This was in the context of a client wanting more than B taken out of SS in 2025 (in 2024 all he had taken out was B) and so was told he had to make a payment himself until it was reflected in his SS check..

I've had dozens of calls and emails on these incorrect Ssa letters, and many have not received their cards in mail. Ssa.gov accts should have updated letters hopefully
