Son Doesn't Live with Me, Does He Need to Be Under My Insurance to Drive?

RBA I am not wrong but I am also not 100% right either. It depends on the circumstance which was not explained in enough detail, that is why I asked her to consult her agent who may know her situation best

A Child MUST be listed on someones policy, they cant drive around Unrated on vehicles.

Wait is that true?, like Ive sometimes wanted to drive my dads car but couldn't since we have been told I'm not on policy and don't wanna increase his insurance on that car, i have a separate insurance policy

You are not a household member and are being given permissive use. Your insurance would cover in excess of his so there is actually 2 levels of coverage.

It technically covers you IF you were in the household and not listed since you are a household family member- however, there is a little clause in the insurance policy for "material misrepresentation" that can deny said claim. So really, you are covered unless the policy says you are not, NOT the other way around.

We talked about that for a bit in my PL CIC course.

Wow, everyone is so quick to give advice with limited details.
I think we all can agree carriers wld handle both situatons differently.
Also, 98% of the time coverage wld apply to both "sons" mentioned.
The 2% chance keeps me from offerring a solid answer.
Maybe i am just too cautious. Hopefully, anyone asking for advice on here sits down with their licensed agent before acting on info from the forum... Hopefully.
