I am about to leave a captive home service agency. They offer life and renter's insurance. In NC we can sell renter's insurance without a full P&C license. That is all we can sell without a P&C license. Does anyone have a stand alone renter's product that I can throw in my kit and sell as a way of a little more income?

Most companies I know of in NC offer an HO-4 (renter's policy). The issue you will find in NC these days is most of the major carriers in the state are requiring auto coverage to go with property. The carriers coverage home insurance are taking the "bad" business while carriers like GEICO (only writing auto, renters, boat, etc - not homeowners or dwelling policies) are writing the "profitable" business. NC is going thru a tough phase right now in regards to p/c. Very few of the big carriers want anything fire exposure east of I-95.

Not only will you have a hard time finding a carrier to do JUST renters' insurance policies, I am 99.9% sure you will have to get your P&C license since HO4 policies have property coverage and liability (casualty) coverage.

I may be wrong about the licensing aspect but am fairly certain that NC DOI would not like to find out about people offering insurance products without a license in NC.

I agree. I have some home only companies in NC. But none of them just sell renters. And all of them required p&c license.

In Nc for renters all you need is a personal lines license. The guy I write Columbian through got me a number for a stand alone renters company.

You can sell a lot with a personal lines license. I thought you didn't have a license.

You did not read my OP. I said I am leaving my captive company and wanted to offer a similar low priced renter's plan that they had.
